Semion Polinov received a B.A. (2010) and M.A. (2015) in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies (2010) from the University of Haifa.
The Master Thesis work “Estimating the impacts of spatial parameters on forest dehydration processes”.
During 2012-2014 Semion worked as a researcher in The Center for Urban and Regional Studies, Technion and co-authored in the number of studies on environmental-ecological issues. In 2014, he was a GIS head of the Israeli project “Policy document for Israeli EEZ in the Mediterranean Sea". As part of the project, Semןon created an "Atlas of Maps of Israel's EEZ Space" where the knowledge accumulated so far is presented.
In 2015 Semion established a GIS platform for “The Mediterranean Coastal Cliffs Preservation government Company LTD”.
Since 2016, Semion involved in the Hamifratz port construction project (LIA Engineering LTD). As part of the project, Semion responsible for the development of Geodetical (Aerial and Drone surveys) and Bathymetrical survey (Multibeam, Singlebeam and RTK surveys) for coastal construction engineering needs of the project.

The research is focused om changes in the human footprint in the Mediterranean Sea since the industrial revolutio. The reserch is looking into the driving mechanism for changes from a spatial and historical perspective.
As part of the Ph.D. research, Semion examines topics such as oil pollution and light pollution, marine protected areas, etc.
The work includes using open-source datasets and their geostatistical analysis in the ArcGIS and SPSS software's.
Since 2019 Semion Research Fellow at the Center for Marine Policy & Strategy Research (HMS) under the executive of Prof. Shaul Chorev. As part of the research responsibilities in the HMS, Semion is investigating the impact of climate change on Israel's maritime security and represents the HMS in cooperation with the NMF research center (Delhi, India).
Semion is an active participant in conferences and workshops of MarCons (E-cost) since 2018.
