Adam, Ella and Lucy participated in the EGU 2022 meeting presenting their thesis results in oral presentations. The EGU General Assembly 2022 ( Vienna) was a great success with over 12,000 presentations from 89 countries.
After the corona year, we were finally able to go back to in-person conference!
Revital and students, Dalal, Mingjian, Keren and Amir presented their recent research results in talks and posters.
Lucy Mokaya and Adam Ostrowski participated in the conference a fieldtrip to the Sharon and Carmel coast to present their recent results in the Caesarea “plot-and-berm” agroecosystems and the aeolianite ridges .
The fieldtrip title was: From late Quaternary geology to human impact on coastal environments at the northern Sharon and southern Carmel coast
and it was leaded by different members of the Marine Geosciences, Maritime Civilizations departments and Bar Ilan University
A NEW EXCITING PROJECT IN THE DEAD SEA!
The Dead Sea environment does not stop to surprise us...
While the name of this hypersaline lake is a testimony for its extreme conditions, biological live are known to sustain in its brine. A new collaboration between
Dr. Bookman and Dr. Avrani (Department of Evolutionary and Environmental Biology) and Dr. Teutsch (Geological Survey of Israel) explores the interplay between water chemistry and microbial live in one of the most extreme environments on earth.
We sample seasonally the waters of hydrological sinkholes that developed along the shores of the Dead Sea due to drastic and continues anthropogenic level retreat with the aim to revel the biotic live and its adjustment to the changing extreme environment. The research combines geochemistry, hydrology, microbiology and remote sensing.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR EXCELLENT STUDENTS...

Matan's first paper was published in Sedimentary Geology
When did Goliath collapse? Dating the recent events of a major submarine slide complex, Southeastern Mediterranean margin
The paper ravels the failure history of one of the largest submarine slides off shore the Southeastern Med Sea and delineates the pre-condition environmental controls and possible seismic triggers.

Semion's paper on Global Assessment of Night Lights as an Indicator for Shipping Activity in Anchorage Areas was published in Remote Sensing
This study used monthly night light (NTL) images to study the night lights emitted by ships in ports’ anchorage areas, as an indicator for shipping activity in anchorage areas and ports.
